ABOUT THE I AM…FEST
After being presented in two continents, three countries, and eight cities, Black Lives, Black Words returns to Chicago to present the ‘I AM…' Fest: A celebration of Black Women in Arts and Leadership, a new, bold and ambitious strand of Black Lives, Black Words.
We are eager to be in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant North Loop Theatre District partnering with the internationally renowned Goodman Theatre for three full days to present the ‘I AM… Fest’ – a festival dedicated to the voices and extraordinary talents of women of color.
Taking place on April 27- 29th, 2019, this new festival will introduce audiences to some of the most socially conscious Black female activists, art leaders, and playwrights from around the globe; placing a spotlight on lesser known plays from some of the most exciting international Black female playwrights, hosting a series of leadership development workshops, panel discussions with some of the most exciting and innovative creatives.
This exciting festival will culminate in our celebrated Black Lives, Black Words International Ten-Minute Play showcase entirely written and directed by Black Women, this revolutionary event will be capped with a closing performance of 100 Women of Color performing the transcript of Sandra Bland’s arrest transcribed by Black British playwright Mojisola Adebayo.
Black Lives, Black Words International Project: ‘I AM…Fest’ invites artists (playwrights) from all around the globe, as well as local Black female directors and actors to participate in this historic event.
"Black Lives, Black Words is a Transformative Movement. It's not a theatre fad or diversity trend. It is an ushering in of the new theater artists that will be remembered in history beside their predecessors."
